But it will work here…
“Lord have mercy” … that sounds promising …
The Herald has an article that throws an ocean of cold water on Patrick’s casino plans for Massachusetts. I would go a step further and say that this is an indictment of all casinos that are near populations centers – including the proposed Mashpee Wampanoag casino being planned for Middleboro.
You didn’t want those local businesses … did you?
Part of the sales pitch with casinos is that they will be an “economic engine”. That sounds great, powerful, almost magical. Imagine!,, an engine that will drive the economy,,, Sign me up!
The reality, more often that not, is an engine that drives the profits of the casino developers – not the economy.
Where have I heard that before?
This is what CasinoFacts.org has been saying all along. A small casino many miles away from a major population center would definitely help an impoverished area – such as a remote Indian reservation. A mega-casino located near major population centers will take a big chunk out of the surrounding economy. It has to. There is only so much free money that people have to spend on non-essentials such as the entertainment and shopping available at a casino resort. Whatever is spent at the resort will not be spent elsewhere.
That’s just the way it works folks.
Such a great post. Hopefully, people will take their $$$ blinders off and see what a casino REALLY does to a community…

I’ve noticed that you have begun to post rather prolifically about the nightmarish consequences of legalizing casinos. Great blog! A mega-casino in Middleboro, or anywhere else for that matter? It’s just all wrong. It will create so many problems while only giving very short time financial respite for our fiscal woes. I’m very proud of your efforts.

Yes, I seem have hit a productive patch and have somewhat hit my stride. I am also posting about non-casino things. I’ve found that I enjoy blogging and hope to continue to do so after the casino is settled one way or the other – hopefully my way.
Build 3 casinos in downtown detroit was a bad business deal all around, When was the last time you even thought about Detroit as a tourist spot to go visit?
Now Cape Cod, Plymouth and Boston are all destinations worthy of visiting. I really feel its unfair to even compare Detroit to what is coming to Middleboro.

I realize your interest in the casino is the profit motive. Try to be objective and read some of the objections to the casino with an open mind. Everything in life is not about $$$.
If you were so certain that this is a “done deal”, you wouldn’t be arguing the point at every opportunity.
Jenn,
My Dear,

My bus tour is an opportunity for people who have never been to Foxwoods or surrounding areas.
I might learn something. Im willing to invest my time but it wont work with just a bunch of Pros I want an equal balance and Ill be neutral for the day with where we go and what we do.
I am trying to get tour guides at the resorts and who knows maybe a free lunch.
