IT assessment is a go
UPDATE I was informed that the cited article was incorrect. See this later post for more up-to-date information.

Looks like the assessment of Middleboro’s IT infrastructure is on:
This is good news. In my column on this topic, I was very critical of the BOS for sending Rullo off to do this pre-assessment, or assessment on the need for an assessment, or mini-assessment, or whatever it was. It looked like an effort to torpedo FinCom’s recommendation. Kudos to the board for authorizing this study.

There is no secret that some people think this is backdoor way of outsourcing IT or ousting Roger Brunelle. With that mindset, it must have been hard for the board to vote on this. I’m sure that most of them are pretty chummy with Marcia and don’t want Roger to lose his job. I’ve never looked at this as an attempt to boot Mr. Brunelle. A good assessment of IT infrastructure will verify our current setup, or give us direction for improvement. This will benefit all – town employees and citizens alike. As I said in my column, much of America’s current ability to compete in the global market came from IT-driven productivity gains over the last decade or so. Hopefully we’ll see some of those same gains in local government.

So who is Hub Technology ? I see a Hub Technology Partners
with a website http://www.nemb.net
If that’s them, they are a medical billing company – what would they know about systems for town governments??
My fear is that they’ll be a Microsoft Partner with no knowledge or interest in anything but proprietary Windows based solutions.
They’re Hub Technical Services – http://www.hubtechnical.com/

Their site claims “HUB offers its customers tried and true support for Microsoft and Unix based environments” and specifically claim to support “UNIX – LINUX – TRU64 – HP-UX – OpenVMS”

They seem to have a lot of experience managing municipal and good-sized companies. I was at the first meeting when FinCom brought them in. They seemed good and FinCom got some good references from other municipalities and companies.

Judging by the town web site, we have nowhere to go but up.
[...] spoke too soon. Apparently the news article cited in my last post is incorrect. The email from FinCom chairman Rich Pavadore explains. I’m sure his request for [...]
