Shunned members sue Tribe
The Cape Cod Times is reporting on the civil rights suit against Mashpee Wampanoag tribal leaders:
Four members of the tribe were shunned after they filed suit to get access to financial documents. Simply – they wanted to see the contracts that the tribal council had entered into with the casino investors on behalf of the tribe. A reasonably request from my perspective.
One of the high points of last summer among the many low points was meeting Amelia Bingham. The former president of CFO had contacted her and she agreed to come to a selectman’s meeting. Now – Ms. Bingham is not anti-casino – in fact she is pro-casino. Her only agenda was to warn the town to do their homework on Glenn Marshall.
Anyhoo, I went over to JT’s house and spoke for some time with Ms. Bingham. She showed us documentation about some of Glenn Marshall’s interesting expenses on a tribal credit card during a visit to Vegas. I was impressed with her(and disgusted with Glenn).
After the news broke about Glenn Marshall and his rape conviction and lies about his war record, I blogged about Amelia once again supporting that her shunning be revoked. That was August 25, 2007. The following January, the tribe voted overwhelmingly to remove the shunning.
So far this has not happened.
Shawn Hendricks – why not?
Why? Simple -Because Glenn is still in charge
I spoke with Mrs. Bingham when she departed the Selectmen’s Meeting. She is a woman of grace and sincerity who cares deeply about her roots and heritage.
No wonder she couldn’t participate and she needed to be silenced.
Why has not Mr. Hendricks revoked the shunning? The answer is obvious. Their status as a nation is not a free nation. It is too bad they run their nation more like totalitarian state instead of a democracy or a free republic.
I’d like to know why Shawn Hendricks hasn’t granted the un-shunning as well. It’s obvious that Amelia and the other shunned members were right all along…so what’s the delay?
The shunning is completely separate from the casino issue. This woman deserves so much credit for standing up to Glenn Marshall and not being intimidated by this bully. We all got a taste for only a few months of what this man was like, imagine years of it.
This woman deserves a gold star for standing her ground. Being shunned by the tribe is like the rest of us being told we can’t be American.
There’s no excuse for the delay.
Thank you for making her stance on the casino issue very clear because it shows even though you are anti you still know what happened to Ms Bingham was just plain wrong!! and it needs to be made right! I also met her after that BOS meeting, I can confirm, she is a very sweet, soft spoken elderly LADY, & on a different note, I apologized for my town leadership, I thought the BOS were very rude to her & I was very embarrassed by them.
