Slots and the senator
Being a liberal Democrat, Brown was going to have to work hard to win me over and unfortunately he’s been just as terrible a senator as I thought he would be – and pro-casino to boot. So far I see him as unresponsive and basically toeing the party line.
.
Whenever I hear that the Republicans and Democrats are going to “compromise” I start getting frightened. It reminds me of the great compromises during the Reagan administration where the president got more military spending, the Democrats got more social spending and we entered into the modern age of staggering budget deficits. How much do you want to bet that the “compromise” will be all the slots that DeLeo wants and all the resorts that Patrick/Murray want? The good ‘ole taxpayer will foot the bill while all the casino money gets sucked out of local business and whisked offshore to the Cayman Islands. Yay casino!.
.
All DeLeo really cares about is Suffix Downs since the same parent company owns Wonderland – the other track he cares about. The magnanimous “compromise” we’re waiting for will probably be a slots gimme to Suffix Downs and inside track on one of the resort licenses. The rest of the tracks will be left to compete for the two remaining resort licenses – one of which seems earmarked for Fall River.
.
Come on folks – you didn’t expect that this was going to be an honest transparent process did you? Didn’t Middleboro teach you guys anything?

Scott brown is a big let down so far.
He is not listening anymore to the people. He is listening only to big business and the republican party that got him the senator seat.
I have called his office after learning about his votes. Only to hear insane comments from his staff. I hope he changes his way, or gets voted out of this seat next election.
Big Let down Brown is what I plan to be callking him.
This is really very, very old news since Brown has long been an advocate for Plainville just as other reps (Democrats) have been advocates for slots where tracks are located in their district. This issue goes back to Brown’s days as a state rep and later as a state senator.
As far as Brown’s politics I notice that the TP crowd was a bit upset with him as are some of the liberals and even Republican Party leadership. If you tick off both sides you must be doing something right. I guess the Republican leadership also realized he will not be lock step to their beckoning. Too bad this does not hold forth with the majority in both parties. His stand on the current financial reform package was exemplary and it actually caused a significant change. IMO he has operated as advertised.
@bogofree
I think he started off pretty decent but has since become a lockstep republican – not surprising since he needs party support($$) to run the next election.
It’s always about the next election.
And our Congressional delegation is not lockstep? LMAO! And John Kerry (D-Gigolo)? Please spare me the soliloquy on partisanship as the democrats are at the bidding of Reid and Pelosi. How has that worked out for the country?
Brown has – as I said – managed to get the ire of the TP crown and liberals both and the jobs bill is an example as he broke ranks. The funny thing is Brown is viewed as a conservative, liberal and a moderate Republican depending on the issue. Can you imagine Barney being viewed as a conservative, liberal and moderate democrat? When you tick off everybody at one time or another in politics you are doing your job and not the job of your bidders. I am pleased he maintained his value system and I hope to say the same thing in 2012.
“I’m Scott Brown, I’m from Wrentham, I drive a truck, and I am nobody’s senator but yours.”‘
